Awesome Foundation Rhode Island’s Guest Trustee Program is fun, low-lift point of entry for folks looking to get more involved with local communities. Whether you’re looking to participate once, or to explore becoming a full time trustee, the process is the same and in both cases you’ll be committing both time and dollars to advance awesome ideas in and for the Ocean State.

Why Be a Guest? Because it’s Awesome!

  1. Support your community. Rhode Island is small; our grant pool is small. We need all the gifting, mutual aid, and peer-support projects we can get. This is one of them.

  2. Learn about creative projects, people, and happenings at their earliest stage.

  3. Meet the full time trustees! We have an amazing collective network, and our discussions are lively.

Why We Have Guests

  1. To bring new energy and perspectives; to help us see past our blindspots,

  2. To spread the word about our chapter and the AF model new communities, and

  3. to expand the pool of people who may eventually join as full time trustees.

Ideal Guest Trustees…

  1. Are interested in being interested. They’re broadly enjoy learning about new things.

  2. Ask good questions, including of themselves and their own assumptions and biases.

  3. Do not need to have any prior experience with gifting, grants, or any specific field.

Commitments

  1. Guest Trustees contribute $100. The funds are raised in addition to our monthly goal and may be used in the future for bonus grants, special events, or other spending full time trustees vote on.

  2. Guest Trustees review around 30 applications, up-voting their top three in our online portal. This process can take anywhere from an hour to a few hours, depending on how you work.

  3. Guest Trustees join us for an in-person discussion of top finalists on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM. The meeting lasts from 60-90 minutes. Sometimes we hang out after.
